Established in 1993 by Rupert and Tanya Baber and Shane and Laura Dowinton, Horizon Horseback has built an enviable reputation for horsemanship, adventure, good food and a refreshingly relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Shane and Laura Dowinton, both originally from the UK, met whilst working in Australia and are now confirmed lovers of Africa. Rupert Baber grew up on Triple ‘B’ ranch where Horizon is based, and met his future wife, Tanya, who is also originally from the UK, while studying at Cambridge University in England. All the partners share a passion and love of horses that is shown with every one of the much-loved herd.

At Horizon, we take pride in the care and quality of our horses. Our herd comprises Anglo-Arabs, Thoroughbreds, Boerperds and crossbreeds, ranging in size from 14.1 to 17.2 hands. All our horses are honest, forward-going and highly responsive. The Horizon Horseback portfolio is run Shane and Laura, who are aided by a friendly and enthusiastic team, chosen for their love of life, horses and people. Together, they create one of the most welcoming and relaxed riding destinations in Africa.
