The sun is shining, the yard is full of hair as the winter coats are shed and the shiny summer coats are coming through. The horses are loving their swimming and are in the dam most days with or with out the riders! The firey necked night jars are singing, the frogs are calling and lilly white legs are being exposed. Spring has sprung.

After 15 years and doing everything it is possible for a horse to do at Horizon Jack has gone back to his original owners for retirement they recently contacted us asking if he was available and we felt it only fitting that he return to them, we do miss his jumping antics and wish him well in his new home.

SAFARI RIDINGHorizon safaris is for experienced riders only, as we do ride with dangerous game. We have 25 well trained horses on the reserve and safaris are limited to 8 guests. This private reserve was one of the pioneer game reserves in the Waterberg. Across its 17,500 acres, the diversity of species and sheer size of plains game herds make it a rewarding game viewing experience. Species to be seen include rhino, buffalo, giraffe, mountain and burchall's zebra, eland, blesbok, impala, kudu, wilderbeest, springbuck, hartebeest, waterbuck, mountain and common reedbuck, buskbuck, hippo, ostrich, golden wilderbeest, black impala, leopard and the endangered sable antelope. |

The topography of the reserve is dramatic: a backdrop of the Waterberg mountain plateau, mountain tracks and passes, dams, streams and waterfalls in the summer, large open sandy plains where the game congregates and bushveld woodland where other game browse. The morning rides are 4-6 hours, whereas afternoons include shorter rides, a game drive or bush walk. Over the course of your safari, the rides will explore the different habitats so that the true diversity of species can be viewed. Although the rides are taken as a group, we endeavour to satisfy the requests of all our guests individually throughout the safari, making it a truly magical experience. |
